Lige Kaplan, M.D., is a respected, board certified, fellowship trained, orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery. Dr. Kaplan treats all arthritic and chronic conditions of the hip and knee including:
- osteoarthritis
- rheumatoid arthritis
- posttraumatic arthritis
- avascular necrosis

After receiving his undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio Dr. Kaplan went on to earn his medical degree from The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He then completed his Residency and Internship in Orthopaedic Surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Kaplan’s advanced surgical training in hip and knee replacement continued during his Lower Extremity Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Throughout his practice Dr. Kaplan has continued to advance his knowledge and skills in adult hip and knee replacement procedures by attending numerous surgical training courses, national meetings, educational symposia and academy proceedings.
Dr. Kaplan is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (www.abos.org). He is a fellow member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (www.AAOS.org) as well as the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (www.AAHKS.org)
From 2008 -2019 Dr. Kaplan’s orthopaedic practice was located in Royal Oak at William Beaumont Hospital where he was an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Oakland University School of Medicine. He was intimately involved in the training of orthopaedic residents and fellows as well as educating medical students.
In 2019 Dr Kaplan relocated his practice to Scottsdale, Arizona and joined the team at The Abrazo Orthopedic Specialists. He remains active in the education of Fellows and continues to conduct clinical research on the advancement of joint replacement surgery.
Dr. Kaplan is a consultant/educator for Stryker Orthopaedics. He travels nationally and internationally educating his fellow orthopaedic surgeons on the latest implant technology and surgical techniques. He is also a consultant for Stryker Surgical where his is involved in the design and development of the latest surgical instruments, hospital equipment and orthopaedic technology.
